Designing the cover for Garry Smadja’s book gave me the chance to channel my illustration style into something deeply personal and raw. His story—losing his father to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease at 18, explores the heavy push and pull between grief and strength of finding healing in the years after. There’s a cat in his narrative, this haunting presence that always appeared before something bad happened. That image guided the illustration, shaping a cover that feels as raw and poignant as his words. It’s a powerful story of hope and resilience, with all proceeds going toward Creutzfeldt-Jakob research.
