Le Vilain Petit Chat Noir

Designing the cover for Garry Smadja’s book allowed me to bring my illustration style into a deeply personal and emotional story. After losing his father to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease at 18, Garry explores the complex space between grief, resilience and the search for healing. A cat appears throughout his narrative, a haunting presence that always showed up before something bad happened. This image became the foundation of the illustration, shaping a cover that reflects the emotional weight of his journey and the strength it took to move forward.
